Iran announces Islamic Revolution Artist of the Year Nominees

Iran's Art Bureau announces 5 cultural figures to vie for title of Islamic Revolution Artist of the Year.

Iran's Art Bureau has announces the names of five Iranian cultural figures to compete for the title of the Islamic Revolution Artist of the Year.

The bureau published the list of nominees during a press release on Saturday.

Writer Hamid Hessam, painter Hassan Rouholamin, filmmaker Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian, graphic designer Mohammad-Reza Doust-Mohammadi and documentarian Mehdi Naqavian are the nominees.

A jury composed of sixty members nominated Hessam for 'When the Moonlight Was Missing', a book which carries the memories of veteran Ali Khoshlafz who was seriously wounded during Iraq–Iran war (1980-1988).

Mahdavian is nominated for 'The Midday Event', a political drama that features the terrorist atrocity of the Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization in Iran of the 1980s.

Rouholamin is selected for his paintings of the Islamic and religious topics such as 'The Sky Fell Down', a large painting depicting the last moments of the life of the third Shia imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Naqavian received the nomination for his 'Out of View', a documentary series focusing on the unrest that erupted after Iran's June 12 presidential election in 2009.

The winner will be announced on April 16. The Islamic Revolution Art Week is slated for April 9-16 in Tehran.
